Familiar photo(s)

Collages6 4x6Greetings new visitors!

Since I added a not-so-subtle reference to this blog on our Christmas card photo collage, I’m hoping a few more people check it out. To that end, I guess I should post here regularly over the holidays to keep you wanting more, right?

First things first, I thought I’d start out with a little background on the photo collage. I use a few photo management software tools to organize my digital pictures. One of them is Google product called Picasa which is pretty powerful, yet simple. It is Picasa that created the photo collage pictured (pun intended) above. I browsed many of our photos from 2008 and selected a few highlights from the year. I picked a picture from each group and cropped it to pick up the relevant subject. Then I put that smaller set together in a folder and let Picasa make a collage out of them. It’s so simple. Due to high demand, a few pictures were removed and I let the family pick out the best random arrangement of snapshots. What you see above is what we settled on. As usual, we used Walgreens to print the photos and snagged a free 8×10 from an on-line promotion. Simple, unique (sort of), and done in one Saturday morning. Thanks to Paul Therrott for the collage idea.

As for this blog, it’s usually a collection of ramblings about our family. I get geeky once and a while, but the posts are mostly kid-centric. It uses the free WordPress blogging software that is also easy-schmeasy. If you’re new, please post a comment so I know who you are.

Other geeky things you can do: Follow me (Pat) on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/schommer) if you’re in to that sort of thing. One or two posts a day is all I can muster. Monica is a big Facebook devotee, so “friend” her if you so desire. I’m there too, but I don’t keep up with it much. Maybe I’ll do better in ‘09. Check out our shared photos on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/schommer). All four of us are on Skype (with video), so give us a ring if you see we’re on. If you’re really geeky, subscribe to the RSS feed so you don’t miss a post! The link is on the top right corner of the main page.
