School Starts today!

As is our tradition, we took our familiar first-day-of-school photo on the front porch this morning. One noticeable absence from the picture this year is Mrs. Schommer, who will not be in a classroom for the first time in nearly 20 years. (She can give you the details if you’re interested – moving on, moving [...]

When does 20 minutes = 8 minutes?

Another tournament visited, another tough day on the court. UW-Platteville was the site of last weekend’s volleyball tournament for the Wisconsin Performance 16s Black team. Leaving the house at 7, we made the trek to Platteville (never been) and found the fieldhouse easily – Thank you, Garmin. To all tournament hosts: Could we trouble you [...]

Stay Off the roads!

Guess who’s 15 1/2? If you’re smart, you’ll stay clear of any road in or near Sun Prairie for next few years. Hannah recently celebrated (?) her 1/2 birthday by dragging me to the DMV to obtain her instruction permit (temps). Her biggest decision of the day? What to wear for the photo. Since when [...]

Homecoming pix

A little late, but I finally uploaded some Homecoming pictures to Flickr. Hannah and a couple of friends got ready at out house before heading out to…wait for it…Fazoli’s for dinner. Really? I’d spring for something a little better than that (since I’m paying anyway). Can’t wait to see where they end up for Prom. [...]

Homecoming 2009

Congratulations to Hannah for being elected to the Marshall High School homecoming court as the sophomore representative. Yay! Here she is in the parade with JT (thanks to Peggy for the pictures):   Accompanying video: Later that night, the court was also recognized at halftime of the football game. As you might have guessed, the [...]

A few wins

The wins are few, so we should enjoy them. The Marshall volleyball squad is nearing the end of their season, and they’ve notched a whopping 2 match wins thus far. New Glarus and Westfield fell to the mighty Cardinals; both were away wins. There is one more chance for the girls to win at home [...]

Schmoomer?

There are many good things about Hannah playing setter on her school’s volleyball team. Namely, she is a pivotal player in a leadership position on the court, she’s involved (or should be) in every play, and she’s getting great position work in for her future playing days. Did I mention she’s involved in nearly every [...]

First Day of School, 2009

Continuing the tradition another year (our ninth), the first day of school had me bring out the ladder to take a group shot at the front of the house. Beautiful weather blessed us again and everyone was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed extra early. Obviously, that was a one-and-done event as the week wore on. The rest [...]

Lace ‘em up, first match

Here I am spending part of my Sunday strolling through the videos from Thursday night’s volleyball matches between Marshall, Mayville, and Columbus. Hannah got her first start as the setter on the Marshall Varsity squad and they did OK. Even though they only won one game that evening, they were competitive in most games. Luckily, [...]

Summer’s Over

According to the girl’s’ schedules, I think we can declare summer over. At high schools all across the state of Wisconsin this week, girls are are digging through their long-forgotten volleyball bags looking for their shoes, kneepads, tape, etc. Volleyball practice (two-a-day!) began in Marshall Monday with a morning conditioning practice followed by an afternoon [...]
